Geschichte

The Poller Hotel was established in 1834 by Kasper Poller. Founder of the hotel and his inheritors made efforts to develop the hotel ,so that in the interwar period, the Poller Hotel became one of the most renown hotels in Krakow. The history of the Hotel is a mixture of splendour and stagnation – during WWII it was occupied by the Germans, after liberation of Krakow, it was briefly head quarter of the Red Army command. After the war it was temporarily regained by the righteous owner, and in 1950 it was nationalized. Only in 1990 it has been regained for good, and as it was very squalid, it underwent a thorough renovation, to become one of the most elegant and enchanting hotels of Krakow.

The full bloom of the hotel took place in the Art Nouveau period – that is when staircase stained-glass windows, designed by Stanislaw Wyspianski, were made, as well as mementoes gathered in the reception hall. Also the design and interior decor express the Art Nouveau spirit, while at the same time harmonizing with the current standards.

The Poller Hotel played host to, for example, Helena Modrzejewska, Henryk Sienkiewicz, as well as Andrzej Seweryn, Beata Tyszkiewicz, Ryszard Kaczorowski, Wojciech Młynarski, Natalia Kukulska, Papal Retinue during the 1997 pilgrimage, and many others.
